The Alden House

John Alden served as the cooper or barrelmaker aboard Mayflower. He chose to remain in New Plymouth where he became a "husbandman" (farmer) as well as a cooper. He married Priscilla Mullins, also a Mayflower passenger.

Little is known about John Alden’s early life, except that he was born ca. 1599. Bradford stated that "John Alden was hired for a cooper at Southampton where the ship victualed, and being a hopeful young man was much desired but left to his own likeing to go or stay when he came here, but he stayed and married here." He married fellow Mayflower passenger Priscilla Mullins and had at least ten children. They lived most of their lives in Duxbury, and he died September 12, 1687.

Priscilla (Mullins) Alden came on the Mayflower with her family from Dorking, Surrey. The only survivor of her family in New England, she married John Alden and had at least ten children. She apparently predeceased her husband, but the date of her death is unknown. Her brother, William Mullins, emigrated to New England later and resided in Duxbury.
